I couldn't assemble a portfolio about my career and nursing skills without adding a page about one of my favorite topics: LEADERSHIP! The DNP program has taught me a lot about myself and has pushed me to grow even more as a leader. Here, I share my top 10 DNP leadership lessons learned during the program, and share links to my all time favorite leadership books and videos. Think of this page as a little portfolio "happy dance!" Enjoy!
The Top 10 Leadership Lessons I Learned as a DNP Student:
10. Your team will appreciate knowing you are human. Don't act like you know it all.
9. Bravery is a daily decision.
8. If you think you are a great communicator, you need to keep learning how to communicate.
7. Find ways to rejuvenate and refresh yourself. Your team depends on this.
6. Optimism covers a host of ills.
5. Surround yourself with people who don't think like you do. Sometimes solutions are not in your lane.
4. Use criticisms as building blocks to improvement, rather than allowing them to be little bombs that blow up your confidence.
3. It's not enough to communicate your vision once at the beginning. As you move, you need to keep the vision front and center.
2. Any time it's possible, communicate in person.
1. TRUST. YOUR. GUT.
